EDITOR'S NOTE
Ali here, Commerce Director at Skimm Shopping. As the week rolls slowly by, I’m thinking about building my ideal fall wardrobe, which so far includes this iconic pair of Vans, M.M.LaFleur’s Better Than Denim line, and Finisterre’s Yarrel Canvas Pant. At 31, I refuse to wear denim with zero stretch, so join the movement if you believe in comfort. In this newsletter you’ll find a really good sale and a makeup setting spray an Olympic gymnast swears by. Can you think of a more legit way to test a product? Because I can’t.

Strong Feelings
Certain fashion topics can really polarize the masses (raise your hand if you've ever been in a heated discussion about when it’s appropriate to wear white). The latest debate in our group chat: are tote bags clad in snarky phrases considered office-appropriate? We’re breaking down two editor-loved bags that provide style, optional sass, and lots of space:
L.L.Bean’s Boat and Tote ($24.95+)
Why we love it: L.L.Bean’s Boat and Tote is a cult-favorite for a reason. It’s spacious, and because it’s made of a thick canvas, you don’t have to be overly precious with it. It’s currently having a moment thanks to the Instagram account @ironicboatandtote, where customers are swapping out initials for silly phrases to show off their personality.
Notes: The original version of the bag doesn’t have a closure, but you can buy one that’s zippered. Otherwise, we’d highly suggest keeping your essentials in pouches to ensure nothing falls out. It’s still up for debate amongst our team if we’d add something other than our initials. For a “fun” purchase, this mini version is sitting in our carts.
MZ Wallace’s Medium Metro Tote Deluxe ($275)
Why we love it: Compared to the L.L.Bean tote, this one from MZ Wallace is far more lightweight. It’s made of a padded nylon material, has a zippered closure, a removable crossbody strap, endless pockets, and a luggage sleeve. While it’s a large tote bag, it has a bunch of compartments so you aren’t having to dig around. You could fit a 13-inch laptop, and while the brand doesn’t offer personalization like L.L.Bean does, you could easily take it to a seamstress to add initials or a phrase. TLDR, we think if there’s one bag to add a silly phrase to, it’s this one. The quilted design makes it look more dressed-up and therefore, office-approved.
Notes: This bag is definitely pricey at $275, but it’s so versatile it feels worth it. Customers rave that theirs have lasted for years and look brand new.
