EDITOR'S NOTE

Sally Rooney’s latest novel came out two days ago, and all of its lead-up hype has me overthinking this Esquire piece on books as status symbols. While it may be cool to get early access to a book, I still believe there’s nothing quite like the feeling of patiently waiting at your local bookstore to grab a fresh copy.
